Description
West Lodge at Shawdon Hall is a lodge, possibly built in 1858 by John Dobson. It is constructed from tooled-and-margined ashlar and features a Lakeland slate roof. The elevation facing the drive is a single storey with two symmetrical bays. It has a plinth, frieze, and eaves cornice. The central porch slightly projects and is open-pedimented, with a six-panel door and a plain overlight above. There are four-pane sash windows in moulded stone surrounds with slightly projecting sills. The gables are coped, and there is a central ridge stack that is stepped and corniced, topped with paired shafts. The left side of the lodge features a triple sash window with pilasters and a raised apron, along with a pedimented gable. There is a rear extension with a Welsh slate roof, but this part is not considered of special interest.
