Description

HARTBURN MELDON PARK NZ 1085 20/53 Stable block at Meldon Park and wall to south 20.10.69 (Formerly listed as stables to Meldon Park) GV II* Stable block, early C19. Tooled and margined squared stone; slate roof. Ranges on 3 sides of rectangular yard open to the west. East range 2 storeys, 7 bays, symmetrical. Plinth, moulded eaves cornice. Central 3-bay section has giant round-headed arches enclosing double doors with Diocletian windows above. Flanking bays project slightly and have 16-pane sashes; narrow end bays have boarded doors, with cast-iron deer's heads (now lacking antlers) above. Hipped roof; central cupola, with clock beneath octagonal louvered drum and spirelet, flanked by cruciform ashlar stacks. North and south ranges each 1 storey, 5 bays. Plinth, moulded eaves cornice. 16-pane sashes, segmental carriage arch and stable door with overlight. Roofs hipped. Wall running south from east end of south range: tooled square stone with flat coping.
