Description
The Joicey Memorial, located 18 metres south of the Church of St. John, is a graveyard memorial erected in 1881. It features red marble set on a sandstone plinth, with bronze elements. The base is adorned with Ionic angle columns and a pediment that includes antefixae, above which is a lead inscription dedicated to John Joicey of Newton Hall. Atop the memorial is a free-standing cross designed in a loosely Celtic style, embellished with carved ornamentation. The memorial is surrounded by a dwarf wall with chamfered coping, supporting 12 tapering piers topped with moulded pyramidal caps and antefixae, which are connected by a chain of spiked ball links. John Joicey was the principal benefactor for the church's remodelling in 1873.
