Description

Carrshield Mine Offices are a set of mine offices built in the second quarter of the 19th century. The structure is made of rubble with rusticated ashlar quoins and door surrounds, featuring ashlar dressings. It has a slate roof with ashlar stacks and is designed in an L-plan, built into the hillside.

The front facing the road is one storey high and consists of six symmetrical bays. It includes boarded doors with margined overlights in the second and fifth bays, and 12-pane sash windows with raised lintels and sills. The gables are coped and feature moulded kneelers. There are stepped and corniced stacks at the ridge and at the right end of the building.

The left side of the building is one storey plus a basement, with a sash window similar to those on the front positioned above a boarded door. The rear wing, which is slightly set back to the left, has a similar window above a plainer opening and features a stepped ridge stack. The rear elevation is also one storey plus a basement.
