Description
The adit portal of Barneycraig Horse Level, located on the east bank of the River West Allen, is a lead mine entrance likely dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of roughly squared rubble and features a round-arched tunnel. Although the actual portal has collapsed, the arching remains intact for about 4 meters back. The Barneycraig Horse Level was developed around 1760 to exploit the rich Barneycraig Vein and remained in operation throughout the 19th century.
