Description

NY 84 NW LANDS COMMON TO THE CARRSHIELD PARISHES OF ALLENDALE AND WEST ALLEN 21/163 Range of lead mine buildings on east side of River West Allen GV II

Lead Miners' 'shops', forge and other offices. Early Cl9 with later C19 alterations. Rubble with stone slate roof, replaced by C20 metal sheeting at right. 2 storeys, 11 bays. Boarded door with 4-pane overlight in 6th bay, other doorways and most windows have lost their carpentry; inserted cart entrance with timber lintel in2nd bay. Brick ridge stack, stone stack at right end. Rear elevation has various outshuts and square stone stack to furnace in bay 7. Interior; various furnace openings with segmental arches in rear wall, blacksmith's forge in bay 11.
