Description

The range of ancillary buildings, including a forge and workshops, at Kew Bridge Pumping Station, was likely built between 1845 and 1846, with rebuilding and alterations occurring in the late 19th century. It was constructed for the Grand Junction Water Works Company. The buildings are made of brownish brick in Flemish bond and feature Welsh slate roofs, with some areas replaced by corrugated asbestos.

This long single-storey range includes, from left to right, a gabled mid-20th century bay that is not of special interest, followed by a gabled bay with a wide board door beneath a segmental brick arch and a hipped roof. There is a 4-bay shelter that was formerly open-fronted, supported by iron columns on chamfered padstones carrying a timber wall plate. Most of the bays on the left have been infilled with brick, doors, and windows, while the right side features a shop front. The roof is of two spans.

Additionally, there is an 8-bay workshop range from the late 19th century, characterized by chamfered stone lintels over the openings. The large windows are set in recesses with chamfered black-brick plinths and have 9-pane pivoting casements. The workshop has double board doors. The forge on the left includes a stable door flanked by windows, along with two metal flues and two gabled ridge louvres on the roof. The former carpenter's shop has a door with a window to the right, while the machine shop on the right features a door with two windows to the right and a stack at the rear.

Inside, the machine shop contains overhead shafts, wheels, and belts of machinery, while the forge has two forges. These buildings are included for their group value.
