Description
Shankhead Lower Farmhouse is a house dated 1764, as indicated by the lintel bearing the name 'George Ridley'. It is constructed of rubble with large quoins and features reverse stepped gable coping, topped with a stone flag roof. The front of the house has two storeys and two wide bays. There is an off-centre boarded door set in a chamfered surround. The ground floor has 19th-century sash windows with heavy lintels. The left end has a squared stone stack with a later brick flue attached, while the right end has a rubble stack. There are 19th-century outbuildings to the right, which are not of interest. At the rear, there is a continuous outshut with a corrugated iron roof. Inside, the farmhouse retains original fireplaces with grates in three rooms, one of which includes a cooking range.
