Description

WHALTON WHALTON VILLAGE NZ 1381 (North side) 12/169 Garden walls around lower lawn to north- west of Whalton Manor House, with attached outbuilding GV II Garden walls 1908-9 by Sir Edwin Lutyens: outbuilding C18 or early C19, altered by Lutyens. Rubble with cut dressings, and brick buttresses to north wall; outbuilding roof stone slate. Flat-coped walls on north, east and south of lawn. Steps up to a raised terrace at the north-west corner. Internal stepped buttresses to north wall. Outbuilding backing south wall has boarded door, half-glazed door and 2 small windows in south wall; roof hipped to right, with gabled roof dormer; similar dormer to rear; decorative leading to windows. Left return shows boarded double doors under timber lintel.
