Description
The walls opposite the Manor House and to the west of Glebe Cottage in Whalton Village are 18th-century former garden walls that were altered in the early 20th century. They are constructed of coursed rubble with cut dressings and have an L-plan layout. The low roadside wall features slightly-raised coping that ramps up at each end. At the eastern end, there is a taller section with an ogee-arched chamfered doorway, which is likely a re-set piece of medieval work, and it holds an early 20th-century ornamental wrought-iron gate. Additionally, a tall wall that returns south has a window near the north end that contains re-set medieval tracery fragments.
