Description

The Watch House enclosure wall with attached outbuildings dates from the second quarter of the 19th century. It is constructed from rubble, with the outbuildings featuring Welsh slate roofs. The wall is made of whinstone rubble with cut dressings and has a semi-octagonal plan. The enclosure wall stands over 2 metres high on the outside and 1.2 metres high on the inside, topped with gabled coping. There is a pent outbuilding with boarded doors located in the western (landward) angles, and a narrow gateway is positioned in the centre of the west side. The height of the wall and the raised ground level within, along with the narrow single entrance, indicate that the enclosure was designed with a defensive purpose in mind.
