Description
The Watch House is a coastguard station built in the second quarter of the 19th century. It is constructed from squared rubble with cut dressings and is whitewashed, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring a brick stack. The building has a T-plan layout and a plinth.
On the coastward elevation, it is a single storey with three bays. The central bay projects and has an open-pedimented gable along with a canted pyramid-roofed bay window that has been renewed with glazing. The flanking bays contain segmental-headed windows with slightly projecting sills; the right bay features a 12-pane sash window, while the left bay is blocked. The hipped roof has a stepped-and-corniced ridge stack located near the right end. The returns of the building also display similar 12-pane sashes.
On the rear elevation, there is a central porch with a 4-pane casement beneath a pedimented gable, and an arched boarded door on the right return. The flanking bays on this side have blocked segmental-arched windows.
The Watch House is included in the listing for its historical interest.
