HALTWHISTLE MARKET PLACE NY 7064 (South side, off) 20/23 Armstrong headstone 7.0 metres south- east of Church of the Holy Cross II

Headstone to George Armstrong died 1783. Sandstone. Scrolled top and raised cyma-moulded border with bead moulding. Relief carvings: angel head and feathered wings, partly enclosed by festoon and flanked by Book of Life and hour-glass. Slightly-convex oval panel, with raised enriched border, inscribed to George Armstrong and his wife. Reverse inscribed:

Step softly ye Friends on hallowed ground ye tread, Lest ye disturb the Mansion of the Dead. A tender Parent rests in peaceful dust His manners gentle and his actions Just, Esteemed by all he liv'd, by all approved And dy'd lamented, as he liv'd beloved.
