Description
The gatepiers, garden walls, railings, and sundial located approximately 30 yards south of Overacres date from around 1720 and were possibly re-set for the Howards of Redesdale.
The gatepiers are tall and rusticated, featuring cornices and the Howard crest set within foliage trails beneath the friezes. Each frieze displays a wild-man mask flanked by rosettes. The piers are topped with large urns adorned with festoons, swags, and heads, and capped by pineapple finials. On the inner face of each pier, the date 1720 is presented in a moulded panel.
The structure is flanked by short walls approximately 3 feet high, which have corniced coping and simple spiked railings. To the left, there is a square, corniced end pier that supports a multi-faceted sundial on a Corinthian capital, topped with a ball finial.
