Description
The gate and gateway by South Lodge to Otterburn Hall, built in the late 19th century, features a combination of materials including ashlar, brick in Flemish bond, iron railings, and a wooden gate. The structure includes tall rusticated corniced gatepiers topped with ball finials and friezes that depict cherubs and sea horses. It is flanked by convex quadrant walls and tall spiked railings adorned with scrolls between the bars above the top rail, with similar end piers. The bold wooden gate is designed as a grid of rails and bars with pointed tops, where the outer bars are higher and connected by a semicircular loop that runs through the grid.
