Description
The Kitchen Garden Walls, dating from the 18th century, are located in the Castle Gardens. They stand about 10 to 12 feet high and stretch approximately 500 feet from the Gardener's Cottage to the north wall of the kitchen garden, returning for about 250 feet at the east end. The walls are constructed of coursed squared rubble on the outside and are lined with brick on the inside. The north wall was formerly heated. On the north side, there is a farmer's crenellated boiler house featuring a merlon opening to the north and an ogee doorway to the east. At the east end, two low projecting towers have segmental arches on the ground floor, with six gabled sheds situated between them. In the center of the north wall, there are taller quadrants leading to a former conservatory, which includes a central archway. Near the Gardener's Cottage on the west side, there is an ogee-headed entrance to the garden.
