Description
The gate piers located 100 yards north of Chipchase Castle are likely from the late 17th century and are constructed from ashlar stone. They feature decorative chequered blocks of rustication that are carved to resemble shell forms. Each pier includes one stone head positioned between the blocks, although it is possible that additional heads have been removed. The piers are adorned with Greek key friezes and cornices, and they are topped with large acorn finials set on bases made of two square blocks and one round block.
