Description

The spiral column located near the north-east corner of the walled garden in Nunwick Park is a Grade II listed structure. It is likely a 17th-century column that has been re-set as a garden ornament. The column is made of sandstone and features a square-plan, two-step plinth. The base consists of a 0.5-metre high fragment of a cylindrical pier with four engaged shafts. The spiral column itself is truncated and stands at 2.0 metres high, with flutes cut into the arris.
