Description
Steward's House, formerly known as Chipchase House, is a Grade II listed building dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a Welsh slate roof. The main section of the house is 2½ storeys tall and has five bays, flanked by two-storey, one-bay wings.
The entrance boasts a six-panelled door with an eared architrave, a pulvinated frieze, a cornice, and a pediment. The ground and first-floor windows are 12-pane sashes, while the second-floor windows are 6-pane. There is a decorative band above the first floor.
The wings contain 20th-century windows on the ground floor and Yorkshire sash windows above. The roof is gabled, with kneelers and flat coping, and there are four stone stacks at the ends of the building.
The rear facade is irregular, featuring cat-slide and lean-to roofs, along with various windows, including a notable 20-pane staircase window in a hip-roofed stair projection.
