Description

The Church of St Cuthbert is a parish church located in Carham. The nave was built in 1790 by R. Hodgson Huntley, while the west tower and chancel were added around 1870, during which the nave windows were also modified in a Gothic style. The nave is constructed of random rubble with ashlar dressings, and the later additions are made of ashlar. The roof is covered with Welsh slate. The church comprises a nave, chancel, west tower/porch, and a north vestry.

The castellated west tower features a pointed doorway and paired lancet bell openings. The nave, which has four bays, includes rusticated quoins and paired lancet windows. The one-bay chancel has an east window consisting of three stepped lancets.

Inside, the church contains 18th-century box pews and choir stalls in the nave. The nave windows have round 18th-century rere-arches. The open timber roof is supported by scissor braces and king posts. On the north wall of the chancel, there is a monument to Anthony Compton, created in 1830 by Davies of Newcastle.
