Description

This is a milepost located 90 metres east of Styford Lodge, dating from the early 20th century and made by Smith Paterson of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and features a shield-shaped plate painted black on white. The plate displays the distances to Newcastle (15 miles) and Hexham (5½ miles). The milepost is mounted on a circular shaft, which has a lower raised rectangular plate indicating the distance to Carlisle (42¾ miles).
