Description

The Custom House is an 18th-century building designed in the Adam style, located at 18 Quay Walls. It is two storeys high and features five bays constructed of ashlar stone. The building has a fine doorway with a round-headed traceried fanlight, Tuscan fluted pilasters, and side lights of Venetian type. Above the entrance, there are five renewed sash windows. The interior is said to be impressive, showcasing Adam-style mantelpieces, a staircase, a mahogany dome, a marble pavement, and some stucco ceilings. The listed buildings along Quay Walls are recognized as a group due to their significance as the river frontage of Berwick.
