Description
The Gate House, located at 15 Sandgate, is a Grade II listed building from the 18th century. It is positioned level with the top of Shore Gate, while the rear part of the house, which is at a much lower level, is a later addition and is numbered 19 and 21 Sandgate. The building has three storeys. The ground floor features a door with a fanlight. On the first floor, there is a door with a fanlight accessed by steps, which are enclosed by iron railings over Shore Gate. The first floor also has a 12-paned sash window, while the second floor has two sash windows. Additionally, there are two gabled dormers on the old slate roof. There are two blank windows in the corner next to No 17. All listed buildings in Quay Walls are part of a Grade II group due to their significance as the river frontage of Berwick.
