Description
The terrace of houses at 1-7 Prudhoe Street was built after 1851 as part of the Howick Street development. The building exhibits two storeys, with a projecting, flat-bowed front at its west end, facing Percy Terrace. This bow reflects the curve of the adjacent building at No. 11 Percy Street. The front facade has five sets of windows, plus two additional windows incorporated into the bow. The construction is of ashlar stone, featuring a moulded cornice, interrupted by a gable over No. 5. There are three ashlar and three brick chimneys. Most of the windows are glazing bar sash windows; however, No. 7 has casement windows. Wide segmental arches provide access to through passages leading to Nos. 2 and 3, although the arch to No. 2 is largely blocked. No. 3, named Prudhoe House, features a two-storey, three-window extension with a hipped gable to the rear. Nos. 5 and 7 have paired doorways. There are four original six-panel doors, along with four more modern doors. A small cottage, previously at the rear of No. 7, has been incorporated into that property.
