Description

This is a disused railway viaduct built around 1849 for the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway, located approximately 300 yards northeast of West Newbiggin. The structure is made of rock-faced stone with brick soffits to the arches. It features six tall, broad segmental arches supported by battered piers that have cornice bands. The viaduct has a low parapet with plain railings and low end piers topped with shallow pyramidal caps.
