Description
The Post Office and adjoining cottage in Capheaton, built between 1830 and 1840, features ashlar stonework and a graduated Lakeland slate roof. This single-storey building, which includes attics, has seven bays. The boarded doors are set within Tudor-arched chamfered surrounds located in the first, fourth, and seventh bays. Each bay contains three-light mullioned windows with 4-pane casements. The steeply-pitched gabled roof is supported by stone brackets at the eaves, has overlapping coping, and is topped with two corniced ridge stacks. At the rear, there is a continuous outshut and a central four-light dormer window.
