Description
The School House, built in 1852, is a schoolteacher's residence located in Acklington Village. It features snecked stone construction with tooled quoins and dressings, topped by a Welsh slate roof with a brick stack that has been rebuilt. The building is designed in an L-plan and showcases Tudor style elements.
The street-facing elevation is two storeys high with two narrow bays; the right bay is gabled and contains 2-light mullioned windows, with a window in the right bay only at the first floor. The gables are coped and supported by moulded kneelers, and the right end stack has been rebuilt on its original base. The left return has two bays, with a gabled right bay that features a boarded door located right of centre, set in a chamfered four-centred arch beneath a shield-shaped datestone inscribed with "Percy Crescent." The right bay has a three-light window at the first floor, while the left bay has a two-light window in a gabled half-dormer. All windows are plain sashes set in recessed and chamfered surrounds.
The building is included for its group value.
