Description
The bridge over the River Wansbeck, built in 1755 by James Paine, is a Grade I listed structure located in Wallington Demesne. It is constructed from tooled ashlar stone and features a central segmental arch, which is flanked by smaller semicircular arches. All arches are adorned with rusticated voussoirs and supported by triangular cutwaters. The square piers, topped with pyramidal caps, flank the arches and lead to outswept approach walls. The piers beside the central arch contain large domed niches. The parapet is set slightly forward on block corbels and is balustraded above the arches, with a flat coping on the approach walls.
