Description
Fourstones Paper Mill consists of a house and an adjacent range, originally built in the 18th century and remodeled in the early 19th century. The structure is made of rubble with quoins and dressings, while the rear wing is partly brick, topped with a double-span slate roof. The front elevation features two storeys with one and three windows, which reflect the former division between the office and house. The house section has a central nine-panelled door with an oblong fanlight set in a raised surround with a heavy cornice. Early 19th-century six-pane sash windows have been inserted. The building has coped gables, ashlar end stacks with conjoined shafts, a rebuilt brick ridge stack, and two earlier corniced ashlar stacks on the rear wing. There are area railings present. The rear wing includes various openings, some of which are blocked. There are also brick outbuildings on the north side of the wing and a further range of buildings forming the third side of the courtyard, which are not of interest.
