Description
This early 19th-century horse engine shed, located northwest of Highwood Farmhouse, is in excellent condition. It features a circular shape with a low-pitched roof and is connected to an earlier barn. Although the machinery has been removed, the impressive lantern trussing remains intact. The structure is built of rubble with quoined openings. The barn itself is approximately 90 feet long and has two storeys, housing animal sheds, a granary, and fodder sheds. Additionally, there is a small single-storey, three-bay shed at the southwest corner, also constructed of rubble, which includes two brick-lined segmental arches and a lintel opening. The roof is covered with Westmoreland slate.
