Description
Evans Almshouse, built in 1864, is an almshouse with an attached wall and an outbuilding to the east. It is constructed from snecked tooled stone, featuring ashlar quoins, dressings, and porches, topped with a graduated Lakeland slate roof. The building is single-storey and has five symmetrical bays. The second and fourth bays have projecting porches that contain vertical-panelled doors set in moulded surrounds with flat-pointed heads and hoodmoulds. The gables are coped and have moulded kneelers and obelisk finials. The windows are two-light recessed chamfered mullions with plate-glass sashes. Above the central bay's window, there is an inscription that reads "THE EVANS ALMSHOUSE/ST DAVID'S DAY" along with the date. The eaves are supported by moulded brackets, and the gables feature moulded kneelers and gabled coping. The building has stepped and corniced end stacks and two ridge stacks. To the right, a wall with gabled coping connects to the gable end of an L-plan outbuilding, which has a small boarded opening in a chamfered surround, along with boarded doors at the rear and leading to a small yard.
