Description

Fold Cottage and its adjacent outbuildings date from the mid-18th century. The buildings are constructed from coursed roughly-squared stone, featuring tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings. The cottage has a pantile roof with stone slates at the eaves and an old brick stack, while the western outbuilding has Welsh slates and the eastern outbuilding has 20th-century grey tiles.

The south elevation of the cottage is two storeys high and consists of one bay. On the right side, there is a boarded door set in an alternating-block surround, and to the left, a 4-pane sash window in an irregular stone surround, with a similar opening above that is missing its carpentry. The left end has a banded stack. To the left of the cottage, a pent outbuilding features a doorway with small windows above and to the left. A single-storey, 3-bay outbuilding is set back to the right, which has a boarded door in a chamfered alternating-block surround, flanked by similar openings that are partly blocked. A small brick outhouse on the left is not of interest.

The returns of the cottage display reverse-stepped gables. The rear elevation features an old 12-pane fixed window and a small casement in chamfered surrounds, along with a 4-pane sash window in a stone surround above; the outbuilding to the left has slit vents.

Fold Cottage and its associated farm buildings create a charming 18th-century group in the centre of Acomb Village.
