Description

This is a group of farm buildings located 120 metres east of West Lodge, known as 'The Old Joiner's Shop', dating from the late 18th century. They are part of a planned farmyard that has a keystone dated 1856. The buildings are constructed of rubble with stone dressings, and most have slate roofs, except for the barn which has an asbestos roof. The ranges of buildings are arranged around a yard that opens to the south.

The north part of the west range features a Gothick barn that is three storeys high with five narrow bays. It has a boarded door set in a chamfered surround and slit vents. The second floor displays shaped vents in stone surrounds and vertical-barred windows in bays two and four. The gables are coped with moulded kneelers and finials, and the barn's returns have first-floor doors in chamfered surrounds—one of which is partly blocked, while the other is accessed by a 19th-century stone stair. Large quatrefoil windows are present in the gables.

To the south of the barn is a single-storey cartshed that features a coped left gable and a small ridge stack with a panelled pot. The rear elevation of the barn has boarded doors in chamfered surrounds for bays two and four, along with blocked second-floor windows above, while all other openings are shaped slit vents in stone surrounds. To the right of the barn is another single-storey cartshed with a boarded door and a small casement window, both in chamfered surrounds.

The north and east ranges are both single-storey, with all openings in chamfered surrounds and bracketed eaves. The north range includes two pairs of segmental-headed cart entrances, one of which features a dated keystone. The east range has a boarded door, casement windows, and shaped slit vents on the rear. The 19th-century ranges are included for their group value with the barn.
