Description
Burnstones Cottage and the adjacent outbuilding to the south are a house and outbuilding from the 18th century that were extended and remodeled in the early 19th century. The structure is built of squared rubble with stone slate roofing. It has two storeys and features two wide bays. The central door has been renewed and is framed by alternating tooled and margined jambs. To the right of the door is a 12-pane sash window, and to the left is a renewed 16-pane sash window. On the first floor, there are 16-pane sash windows, with the one on the right being renewed. The windows in the left bay have tooled and margined lintels and sills, while those in the right bay have tooled stone surrounds.
The outbuilding to the left has an elliptical-arched door with a rusticated tooled and margined surround, situated next to the house. It also has a lower section that is set forward and features a catslide roof, along with a small window and a boarded door with a tooled and margined surround on the right return. The house has stone stacks on its gables and ridge. The left return of the house has a blocked first-floor window and a stone end stack on the right. The rear elevation of the outbuilding displays two 18th-century windows with tooled stone surrounds, one of which is blocked.
