Description

Burnstones Bridge, which carries the A689 over Thinhope Burn, is an 18th-century structure that was rebuilt in 1940 using original materials, as indicated by a datestone on the internal face of the east parapet. The bridge is constructed of squared rubble and features two segmental arches with arch rings. The central pier has a semicircular cutwater topped with a conical cap, and there are flanking pilasters. Below the parapet, there is a band with arched coping, and the pilasters extend upwards as piers with low pyramidal caps.
