Description

Burnstones Farmhouse is a former inn that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 18th century and was extended and heightened in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of rubble, partly rendered, with tooled quoins and dressings, and features vermiculate quoins on the second floor. It has a slate roof with rendered stacks and stands three storeys tall with one and three bay sections.

The three-bay section has central panelled double doors set in a chamfered stone surround, which is sheltered by a 20th-century glazed porch. Flanking the doors are 20-pane sash windows. Above, similar windows are flanked by a 20-pane fixed light with an opening section, while the second floor features 12-pane sashes and a window in the left bay. All windows have tooled stone surrounds, with the 12-pane sashes having slightly projecting sills. The second-floor windows are flanked by vermiculate blocks on their jambs. The building has ridge and gable stacks.

At the front of the new porch is a stone that was formerly positioned above the door, inscribed with "Nichlos Moor dealer in foreign Spirituous Liquors Right return." The rendered rear elevation displays two adjacent gabled wings, which are lit by 15-pane sashes that illuminate the stair. There is a stack on the left gable.
