Description
The building is a former threshing barn and link section located at the left rear of Springfield Farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of narrow brick in irregular bond and features pantiled roofs. The structure forms an L-plan group, with the link section positioned at right angles to the left rear of the farmhouse, and the barn and an extension at right angles to the rear of the link section.
The single-storey, 2-bay link section has blocked breathers and stepped eaves courses facing the road, with altered openings facing the farmyard, and a pitched roof. The 2-storey, 4-bay barn includes two rows of breathers, along with altered and blocked openings and a ventilation grid arranged in a lozenge-shaped, chequerboard pattern. It has stepped eaves and a steeply-pitched roof with brick verges and corbelled-out kneelers. To the right, there is a single-storey, 2-bay extension that features an elliptical archway and pigeon holes on the gabled right return. The left return of the barn, which faces the road, has a partly-blocked, round-arched first-floor loading bay.
The barn and link section are included for their group value, while the altered linking section on the right rear of the farmhouse is not considered of special interest.
