Description
Oxney Flatt Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse, altered in the late 19th century. It is constructed of partly-rendered rubble with some brick patching, and has a renewed pantiled roof with rebuilt brick chimney stacks. The farmhouse has two storeys and three bays, with roughly-squared quoins. The late 19th-century openings are set in projecting stuccoed surrounds. The central entrance has a four-panel door with a two-pane overlight, and a Phoenix Company fire-insurance mark is set into the door lintel. The windows are replaced four-pane sashes. Stepped eaves courses are visible, and the steeply-pitched roof has swept eaves and brick verges. End stacks are present. On the right return there is a chimney flue in narrow brick, and a blocked two-light mullioned window is found in the attic. A single-storey rear outshut is located under a pent roof. Inside, a massive cambered fire-beam is present in the room at ground-floor right, alongside a closed-string, dogleg staircase with two flights, a landing rail, and turned balusters. Farmbuildings on the left return and rear are not of particular architectural interest.
