Description
This is a Victorian folly and associated forecourt wall. No. 19 is a two-story square tower built of roughly coursed rubble stone with red brick dressings. It features angle pilasters and a battlemented parapet above a brick dentil cornice, which is broken outward at the corners to support angle turrets, also battlemented, with a diagonal brick corbel table. A three-light casement window, transomed, is set in splayed stone frames. A single small light is present on the north face, and drip moulds are incorporated.
A long, high wall extends southward from the southeast corner of the tower to Bridge Road. This wall is constructed of random rubble with red brick pilasters supporting a battlemented brick parapet, and is finished with stone-coped end piers, the northern one topped with an urn finial. A quarter-octagonal porch of rusticated stone, with a battlemented parapet and a Tudor arched entrance under a dripmould, is situated in the angle between the wall and the tower.
The land behind the folly has been re-developed, with a new house, Sheraton Park, built. An arch has been inserted into the forecourt wall to create a gateway for Sheraton Park.
