Description
No. 17 Darlington Road is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with some alterations. It is constructed of rendered rubble and features roofs made of pantiles and ridged concrete tiles, along with a brick chimney stack. The building has an L-shaped plan, consisting of a main block with a gabled rear stair wing.
It is two storeys tall and has three windows. The original four-panel door has been replaced, and there is an overlight in the right bay. The windows are 16-pane sashes set in mid-19th century openings, with projecting sills. Above the door, there is a small replaced horizontal-sliding sash window. The roof is steeply pitched with slightly swept eaves, and the left gable is raised and coped, featuring a shaped kneeler. The short right section of the roof is covered with concrete tiles. The ridge stack has been partly rebuilt and includes a top band.
On the left return, there is a single-storey lean-to addition. The two-storey gabled stair wing and the added single-storey outshut at the rear both have steeply pitched roofs covered with pantiles.
