Description
The Village Hall is a former school that was rebuilt in 1878, with later additions. It is constructed of dressed sandstone and features a roof made of large dark-purple slates, along with stone chimney stacks. The building is designed in a U-plan and has one tall storey with a symmetrical three-bay front. There is a central late 20th-century porch beneath the original entrance parapet, flanked by projecting gabled wings. Each wing has tooled quoins, a large single window with small-paned iron casements, and a narrow louvred opening in the coped gable with shaped footstones. The roof is steeply pitched and includes three lateral stacks with offset bands and corniced tops on the inner returns and the recessed central bay. The left return has two similar windows, and the front window features a Tudor-arched surround under a hoodmould. The roof is hipped at the rear, which has five square-headed windows that alternate in height. The building occupies a prominent position in the village, although the late 20th-century porch and additions on the right are not considered of special interest.
