Description

The Surtees Table Tomb, located 2.5 metres north of the Church of St. Michael, is a Grade II listed table tomb dating from 1847, dedicated to the Surtees family of Redworth Hall. It is constructed from sandstone and features a horizontal slab with a moulded edge, resting on six square-plan balusters adorned with relief carvings, including the Prince of Wales feathers and raised shields. The slab displays a relief of the Achievement of Surtees Arms and is inscribed with the names of various members of the Surtees family, notably Brigadier General Sir Herbert Conyers Surtees, who passed away on April 18, 1935, at the age of 75. Sir H.C. Surtees was recognized as a prominent local historian and author.
