Description
The fountain located to the north-east of the bandstand in South Park is a tall structure made of terra-cotta, dating from the mid-19th century. It features a small upper basin in a quatrefoil shape, topped with a leafy finial, supported by four short columns of polished granite. These columns rise from a larger finial and basin, which sits on a short, thick granite column atop a round terra-cotta base. All components of the fountain are richly moulded. The fountain is positioned on a later cement plinth that includes a plaque noting its origin at Pierremont House and its donation to the borough. The entire structure is surrounded by a pool that has a cable moulded, coved terra-cotta rim and truncated octagonal piers placed at intervals.
