Description
No. 36 Galgate is a house from the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. It is built from coursed squared stone and features an ashlar plinth, quoins, and dressings. The roof is covered with graduated stone slates and has stone gable copings and chimneys. The house has two storeys and a three-window range.
There is a step up to a recessed 19th-century door, which has three panels over three panels and an overlight, all framed in a plain stone surround with a shallow hood. The ground floor includes 19th-century windows, featuring a canted bay on the left with four-pane sashes and a bracketed cornice under a flat roof. On the right, there is a wide four-pane sash window, with the upper sash being smaller, set beneath a flat stone lintel.
The first floor has plain sash windows set in projecting tooled stone surrounds. The roof features a left gable coping on a cyma-moulded kneeler and end chimneys, with the left chimney having a plinth and cornice, while the right chimney has a top band that continues with the chimney of the adjacent house, No. 38. The interior has not been inspected.
