Description

This is an early 19th-century house located on Galgate, Barnard Castle. It is built of coursed squared sandstone with ashlar quoins, a plinth, and ashlar dressings, topped with a stone slate roof featuring stone gable copings and stone chimneys. The house is two storeys high, with a two-window front and a single-window return on the left. The left bay is slightly wider. The front door, which has 3-over-3 paneling and an overlight, is set within a projecting stone surround to the right of the centre. Flanking the door are sash windows with matching surrounds; the lower sashes are plain and the upper sashes have margins. The roof has plain gable copings, and decorative bands mark the end chimneys, with the right-hand chimney raised against the gable of the adjacent house. The left return has a sash window on each floor. The interior has not been inspected.
