Description

The former Londonderry School, now the offices of Chevron Roofing, was built in 1850 for the Marchioness of Londonderry, as indicated by the panel above the door. The building features coursed squared gritty sandstone with quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof that has stone gable copings. It has a T-shaped plan and is one storey high, consisting of six bays with a rear wing.

The gabled porch located in the fourth bay contains a boarded door set within a chamfered Tudor-arched surround, beneath an inscribed stone that is recessed in a moulded panel. The windows are 20th-century, featuring mullions and transoms, with two lights in chamfered surrounds and projecting stone sills. Both the roof and porch are supported by block kneelers. The right side of the building has two large windows, and the rear wing is of the same height as the main structure.

The inscription on the building reads:

THIS EDIFICE / Erected in 1850 by FRANCES ANNE VANE / MARCHIONESS OF LONDONDERRY / As an encouragement to the Colliers / To promote the Moral and Religious Education / of their Children / and as a lasting Memorial of the interest SHE takes / in their welfare.
