Description

The bridge over the railway, built in 1848 for the Great North of England Railway, is a road bridge located on West Rainton Station Road. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone in diminishing courses, featuring ashlar dressings. The bridge has a parapet made of large blocks and is supported by coped buttresses. It features a wide segmental arch with projecting stepped voussoirs. A band at road-bed level extends around shallow end pilasters that rise to rectangular piers. The parapet is topped with low-curved coping.
