Description
The Church of St Cuthbert is a parish church built between 1866 and 1867 by C.H. Fowler. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof with flat stone gable coping. The church is designed in the Early English style and consists of a nave with a south porch and a chancel that includes a north vestry. The nave has two bays and a shallow gabled porch that contains a pointed-arched double boarded door, along with three stepped lancets. The one-bay chancel features a single lancet and bar tracery in the east and west windows, as well as a west bellcote. Inside, the south chancel window, created by Wailes and Strang of Newcastle, depicts Holman Hunt's 'Light of the World'.
