Description
The farm buildings north of Raby Hill Farmhouse date from around 1770 and were designed by J. Paine, based on a design by D. Garrett. They are constructed of limewashed rubble with ashlar dressings and feature a pantiled roof. The main barn is two stories high and has three bays, with a one-storey L-plan range of byres on the left that forms a yard behind the farmhouse; the right range has been demolished.
The barn includes a blocked segmental arch above a central Dutch door, with a four-pane overlight beneath a thin wooden lintel. There are flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills on the partly blocked openings on either side, and wide thin lintels with projecting stone sills for the 20-pane fixed lights on the first floor. The barn has a hipped roof. The byres on the left and the inner return have boarded Dutch doors and partly-glazed hit-and-miss windows. The rear of the barn has been altered to include a wide vehicle entrance.
At the time of the survey, the buildings were derelict. They are included in the register for their group value.
