Description
The Bath House in Wood is a building from the third quarter of the 18th century, constructed from rendered sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and a tooled plinth. The roof is not visible. Designed in the Gothick style, it is a single-storey structure with three bays. The central bay features a high, two-centred arched passageway, flanked by boarded windows of a similar shape. These elements are topped with bud-finialled ogee dripmoulds and are framed by ashlar pilasters that have high Gothic panels. Additional features include a sill band, window aprons, and a heraldic crest above the arch. The building has a corbelled embattled parapet, which is interrupted by panelled gabled pilasters with spirelets, and includes a small quatrefoil and loops at the center. The returns of the building have similar windows beneath rectangular panels. The rear of the structure maintains a similar style, but its parapet is interrupted by an ogee dripmould that contains a large quatrefoil above the arch and blind quatrefoils above the windows. Inside the passage, there are six-panelled doors leading to a dressing room on the right and a bathroom on the left, both featuring panelled reveals and architraves. The interior has not been inspected.
